Hockey Development Program

Hockey has been an integral part of India’s sporting history, yet it struggles to receive adequate support at the grassroots level due to limited funding, lack of infrastructure, and low awareness about career opportunities in the sport. Khel Sahayog aims to bridge this gap by promoting hockey as a tool for youth development, social inclusion, and community empowerment. This program will focus on identifying talent, providing training, improving access to equipment, and creating pathways for professional opportunities

Objectives

  • Grassroots Development: Establish hockey training centers in underserved communities.

  • Infrastructure Support: Provide hockey kits, training equipment, and playing surfaces.

  • Coaching & Mentorship: Engage certified coaches to train young athletes.

  • Tournaments & Exposure: Organize local and regional competitions to give players match experience.

  • Education & Awareness: Promote the role of sports in mental health, discipline, and drug prevention.

  • Corporate & Institutional Partnerships: Secure funding and sponsorships for sustainability.

How we work

At Khel Sahayog, we follow a structured and impact-driven approach to ensure that our hockey development initiatives create lasting change. To ensure our initiatives create lasting change, we adhere to a set of guiding principles that align with our mission of holistic hockey development. Our work is guided by the following key principles:

A. Community-Centered Approach

  • Engage with local schools, community organizations, and sports clubs to identify young talent.

  • Conduct awareness sessions to promote hockey as a career and life-skill development tool.

B. Training & Development

  • Implement structured training programs with certified coaches and sports psychologists.

  • Provide high-quality training equipment and maintain optimal playing conditions.

C. Partnerships & Funding

  • Collaborate with corporates for CSR funding and sponsorships.

  • Work with government bodies and sports federations to enhance infrastructure and policy support.

D. Tournaments & Career Pathways

  • Organize competitions to give players match exposure and scouting opportunities.

  • Connect top-performing athletes with professional leagues and national academies.

E. Sustainable Impact

  • Establish self-sustaining training centers through revenue-generating programs like tournaments, merchandise, and coaching workshops. A successful example of this model is the Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High-Performance Centre, which has combined corporate sponsorships, government support, and grassroots engagement to create a sustainable training ecosystem.

  • Measure progress through impact assessments and periodic evaluations.

Expected Impact

  • Direct engagement with 500+ young athletes in the first year.

  • Development of at least 5 training centers across key regions.

  • Creation of scholarship opportunities for talented players.

  • Increased awareness about mental health and drug prevention through sports.

By adopting a structured approach, leveraging successful NGO models, and focusing on long-term athlete development, India can produce world-class athletes and strengthen its athletics ecosystem.
